Our partner organization for Team Canada is A Way Home Canada. A Way Home Canada is a national coalition dedicated to preventing and ending youth homelessness in Canada. They inspire and enable communities and all levels of Government to organise, plan and implement strategies to address youth homelessness in a coordinated, measurable and impactful way. They believe there is a need to move away from simply “managing” the problem of youth homelessness through emergency services and move towards a more proactive approach that focuses on prevention (stopping young people from becoming homeless in the first place) and helping those who are homeless move into housing with support as rapidly as possible and in a safe and planned way.
A Way Home Canada is the host organization for the National Learning Community on Youth Homelessness. Of their 29 members, 24 work directly with young people. Key issues include social stigma, emergency response focus and geography (in such a large country, youth need to migrate from their natural supports to larger centres to access the services/programs they require). In partnership with the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, they produced the first Canadian survey on youth homelessness: Without A Home. They have produced the LGBTQ2S toolkit giving organizations access to training. They have over 1600 registered users of the toolkit worldwide.
